Important Message from McDaniel & Company, PLLC – Tax Extension Update & Our Office Operations during the Coronavirus Pandemic
We are committed to serving your needs while maintaining a safe environment for our employees during the coronavirus pandemic. Our office is closed to outside visitors until further notice. Our team will continue to work remotely, where possible. We will maintain a limited number of staff in the office for tasks that cannot be done remotely. We have continuance plans and modified schedules in place to provide you with ongoing service.
We have followed workplace recommendations from the start and will continue to do so as recommendations evolve. It is important to us to protect the health and safety of our team and their families, as well as our clients, during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The federal tax filing and paying deadline has been moved from April 15 to July 15. No interest or penalties will apply during that period. First quarter estimated tax payments normally due April 15 are also extended to July 15. The second estimate due June 15 has not been extended.
States may or may not follow suit. We are following developments closely. We do know North Carolina has deferred its deadline to July 15 and will waive penalties, but does not have the authority to waive interest without intervention from lawmakers.
Even though we have more time, please submit your tax information to us as soon as possible. The earlier we have access to your documents, the more proactive we can be. Documents can be sent to us electronically through our secure file transfer or mailed or overnighted to us at our office address. We also have a mail slot through which most of your tax information packages will fit. You may contact us to discuss options via email or phone.
We will handle signatures electronically and provide copies of your returns via secure file transfer. Any hard copies required to be mailed to the government will be mailed to you via FedEx with detailed instructions. As always, you may request a hard copy for your records. We will be available to answer your questions and walk you through the finalizing of your tax returns.
Our accounting staff normally work extreme hours during our busy seasons, leading to increased stress, inefficient sleep and poor eating habits, all of which compromise the immune system. We are reducing our required busy season hours for our accounting staff effective immediately so they may take better care of themselves and their families during this pandemic.
We are still here for you. If you require your tax returns before July 15, please let us know and we will prioritize them. We are also available for any other projects or assistance you may need.
